Did you know that every Saturday 9-11am is open house for all fire stations (expect Jurong Island). This is a free event where the public get to view the interior of a fire station. It was a dream came true for Morgan who loved fire engines.

More Info. here.

Alexandra fire station was the second oldest fire station after Central Fire Station. It house the the 1st SCDF Div HQ. From the facade, you can see the seven story high building, a huge contrast from other stations.

It was drizzling in the morning. The kids were excited and we decided to give it a go. Nearest parking was at Queensway shopping center.

We were attended by Sgt Kishore who brought us around the station. He apologized that being a wet day, they were not able to showcase the outdoor display. He showed us around the fire engine and gave a detailed explanation of how it works and what’s in the different compartment.

The highlight was getting hands-on with the water nozzles and watching the firemen sliding down the fireman’s pole, using just body and leg as contact points!

At about 10am, more visitors started to pour in. One of the fireman explained that many are expats living around the area.

While the firemen are busy attending to the new visitors, we had fun wondering around the station. The red rino was a hit with the kids. They were also amazed by the 3 wheeled fire bike. There were also a HazMat Mitigation Vehicle in the station.

It was 2 hours of fun. Kids were elated that they were able to get up close to the vehicles and even hands on the equipments. We were also allowed into the control room where they explained the boundaries of each station and fire post.
