A Night at the Opera

On August 7, 2013, in events, Singapore, by omegaforest

Tonight was a special night. Instead of watching her usual cartoon on Disney Channel, she was here with me at a Chinese Opera performance. Before the show, I took her backstage to view the preparation. Initially, she was too overwhelmed by the facial makeup. After warming up, she felt more relaxed and began to explore around.

Tonight was a full house. The majority of the audience were elderly and some I believed were hardcore fans. Megan sat with me, trying to relate the performers to those she saw earlier at backstage.

I strongly believed that we have to experience our  culture. There is only so much books and TV programs can teach.

This year, the Hungry Ghost Festival (7 Aug 2013 – 4 Sep 2013) is another good opportunity for you and your family to enjoy Chinese Opera.

View 2013m Getai Schedule here. In most venues, Getai and Chinese Opera are common events during the hungry ghost festival.

Lots of action at backstage. There are no makeup assistants. All the artists had to makeup themselves before the show.

Megan is one very lucky girl. She gets to learn so much from such rich cultural experiences. You are a great Dad! Lovely pics as always 🙂
